Harpers Weekly was first published in 1857. During the Civil War, between 1861 and 1865, the wood engravings of many well known American artists such as Winslow Homer, Thomas Nast, and Alfred Waud appeared in its pages. After the war, other accomplished ilustrators such as Howard Pyle and Rodgers contibuted images to Harpers.

The pages, all measuring 10" x 15" and covering countless images and subjects of the day, provide both historical and aesthetic interest. Original complete issues and single images may be purchased. Please check this link for a partial availability list.
